Captain America: The First Avenger

Warning: Potential spoilers.

As mentioned in this post, I’ve decided to go through all the Marvel movies. I asked my handy ChatGPT to give me a list order like a big, old loser. I legit didn’t feel like turning on my computer. Captain America: The First Avenger was the first one listed.

It figures that I would start with Captain America, since it was the most recent Captain America movie that inspired me to do this in the first place.

Since there are plenty of plot summaries abound on the internet, like this one, I don’t really need to give a play-by-play. I’ll just bullet point some of my thoughts:

  • First and MOST IMPORTANT (and this is kind of touching on the most recent Captain America movie as well): Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson are the most boring, white-people names ever.

    I said what I said.
  • I used to have a reoccurring nightmare about a glowing cube with a demon baby head in it. The Tesseract reminds me of that, sans demon head. I…win?
  • Pre-serum Steve Rogers’s voice way did not match the body. I kind of wish they had altered that as well. A specimen that depicts the epitome of womenkind’s disappointment should be all-encompassing. Go big or go home! No pun intended.
  • Dr. Arnim Zola (played by Toby Jones) reminds me of Mr. Feeny (William Daniels) from Boy Meets World. Please tell me that I am not the only one!
  • OMG, there’s a STARK. It’s Tony Stark’s dad!
  • OMG, it’s Hugo Weaving as Johann Schmidt! It’s Agent Smith! And Elrond!
  • Hugo Weaving’s eyebrows always look like a little kid scribbled an angry face on him. I find it kind of hot and I’m kind of weirded out by this.
  • Also, if you are a fan of the show New Girl, you know that there is only One True Schmidt, and it’s this guy:

    Schmidt from New Girl

Honestly, it was a good movie. I always, always feel like pacing is too fast in movies, though. Maybe that’s why I tend to watch more series than movies.

Notable Easter eggs:

  • The red figure in the glass case at the Stark Expo is a nod to the original Human Torch from Marvel Comics. Not Johnny Storm from the Fantastic Four, but the andriod superhero from the comics. Fun note: Chris Evans also played Johnny Storm in some of the other movies!
  • The Tesseract is first seen in Odin’s treasure room in Thor. No wonder why Schmidt was talking about Yggdrasil and Norse mythology while looking at it. It’s all coming together, MUHAHAHA!
  • Some foreshadowing in these pictures right here:
Steve Rogers with trash can lid
Steve Rogers pre-Captain America with a trash can lid as a shield!

    Bucky with the shield!
Bucky briefly with the Captain America shield, foreshadowing becoming The Winter Solider later on down the line.

The literary nerd inside me squeals in delight!
  • Oh, and we can’t forget the quintessential Stan Lee cameo, can we?

And since we know about the Winter Soldier, we all know that there’s no way Bucky died when he fell from that train…right? Right?

Up next? Iron Man. I can’t wait!

Mortals.

Welcome to the hellscape that is my virtual brain dump. I have a lot of interests and like to write about them. I’d say I’m sorry, but that would be a lie.
